My passion for fly fishing was born with a trip to Patagonia with friends. I had never paid much attention to fishing; I only knew that I liked it.
My first approach to it was in San Martín de los Andes, in the province of Neuquén. When I returned from the South, I decided to investigate a little more. I bought my first "combo" (equipment set) and, thanks to Mel Krieger's videos, I started practicing in the park near my house in the City of Buenos Aires.
My interest grew, and I discovered the Club San Huberto. There, I learned how to cast correctly and how to tie flies.
After finishing the first level of the club's course, I traveled to Bariloche, and it was there that I discovered my passion: Fly fishing!
Although videos and texts helped at the beginning, I felt I needed something more. Researching online, I came across the Club San Huberto, located in Ramos Mejía (part of the Buenos Aires metropolitan area), where I found a community and instructors who shared my passion. There, I tied my first flies and perfected my casting; it was my temple of learning for three years.
At the club, I met Diego Flores. Thanks to his presentation, the flame for carp fly fishing was ignited. My interest grew so much that I attended another one of his talks in General Roca, Río Negro, where Sebastián Pagano—a great technical connoisseur of the species and its environment—was also present.
The initial attempts were frustrating. After several months of "going for walks" (not catching anything), I managed my first catch near the city of Neuquén and discovered the incredible nature of Carp FlyFishing. Today, after years of experience, I specialize in carp fishing in the Alto Valle area.
Regarding trout, I am a fan of fine fishing: dry flies or nymphs on a #20 hook make this activity a delight. However, the large trophy fish of the Limay River motivated me to use streamers, shooting lines, and long casts. Marcelo Morales' seminars were fundamental in perfecting my casting technique, line management, and water reading.
My next goal is to obtain certification as a casting instructor.
