The Limay River is home to several species of sporting value. Trout and carp are its main attractions.
As for trout, we can find them along the entire length of the Limay River: from its source, at the mouth of Nahuel Huapi Lake, all the way to its confluence with the Neuquén River, where the Río Negro begins.
Carp, on the other hand, can only be found in the last stretch of the Limay, which we call the Lower Limay River (Río Limay Inferior).
From the source of the Limay River all the way to its confluence with the Neuquén River, we can catch Rainbow and Brown Trout of all sizes.
The preferred area for catching trout is what we call the "Middle Limay" (Limay Medio), where we can land our highly prized "trophy trout."
The season closure (during April and May) is the best time to successfully catch a migratory brown trout weighing 2 or 3 kg, or even more!
Dry flies, nymphs, or streamers—it is a river that offers us many possibilities with different techniques.
This is a species that we find from the area of the river called the "Lower Limay" (Limay Inferior) all the way to the mouth of the Río Negro.
It is sight fishing: our vision and stealth are our main tools. They are fish with very fine senses, which forces us to be extremely cautious and technical in order to place the fly on the exact spot.
Fighters like few other fish, they possess an tireless strength that often takes us right down to the backing.
